Greater Omaha is a thriving area of more than 1.2 million people located within an hour’s drive of the urban center.
With an average household income of nearly $70,000 and a cost of living 10 to 12 percent lower than the national urban average, Greater Omaha is a strong, regional retail market. In fact, total retail spending for the Greater Omaha metro is about $14 billion a year, with consumer demand showing opportunity gaps in significant categories - despite Omaha’s retail growth.
Omaha’s projected economic and population growth, along with its positive, pro-business climate, promises continued momentum. Long termed a “recession-resistant” economy because of the diversity of business and industry present in Omaha, the foreseeable economic outlook is for continued growth.
Hundreds of leading national and regional retailers have capitalized on Greater Omaha’s high spending power and demand, including:
Bonefish Grill J.Crew Pottery Barn The Cheesecake Factory Urban Outfitters Trader Joe’s (opening in 2010)
Highlighting its commitment to retail development, the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership is an active member in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). The Partnership participates each year in ICSC’s Global Real Estate Convention, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, Greater Omaha was the host city for ICSC’s Idea Exchange in January 2009; and will be the host city again in 2012.
