Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership

offutt Air Force Base

Greater Omaha is home to Offutt Air Force Base, which houses United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), U.S. Air Force Weather Agency and the 55th Wing of the U.S. Air Force. As such, Greater Omaha has a global reach, emphasizing key components of the base’s core missions — including deterrence, space, cyberspace global weather, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Offutt Air Force Base has a proven track record of supporting global missions that dates back to the foundation of Strategic Air Command and today’s U.S. Strategic Command.

Offutt is Greater Omaha's largest employer, with about 8,000 military and civilian personnel working at the base. An additional 4,400 secondary jobs are attributed to the base's operations. The community and Greater Omaha business leaders organized the Nebraska Military Support Coalition to support existing missions and seek new ones.

The base plays an integral role within the local community with an economic impact of nearly $2.7 billion annually. In addition, other installations have a significant economic impact on the community; among them is the Nebraska National Guard, with an operationally significant presence by directly supporting missions of the 55th Wing.
